Can customers continue to use Oculus for Business?

Current customers can continue using their VR headsets for Oculus for Business without any changes to their experience in accordance with the prescribed subscription or warranty periods under the Enterprise Use Agreement. This includes premium Oculus for Business support, security and vulnerability patches, hardware warranties, and rapid headset replacement.

As a current Oculus for Business customer, what are my options?

Current customers can continue to use Oculus for Business in its current state, and can also migrate to consumer devices to try our latest productivity features. Headsets in use for Oculus for Business can be converted to the consumer operating system by submitting a ticket to Customer Support. Conversion of headsets from Oculus for Business to the consumer operating system requires a factory reset, and once completed, this action cannot be reversed.

For Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro headsets, US-based companies can also migrate those headsets from Oculus for Business to the consumer operating system and enroll in the Meta Quest for Business beta program. Any Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro headset on the consumer operating system can be used for Meta Quest for Business.

What’s changing with Oculus for Business?

In order to provide the best experience and maximum benefit for our customers, we’ve decided to evolve our platform and build multipurpose VR devices that can be used for work, play, and social. As a result, we have completed our last Oculus for Business sales. Current Oculus for Business customers can transition to a new offering, Meta Quest for Business, which is currently available for US-based companies as a beta program for Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro headsets. What’s the last day that customers can purchase Oculus for Business?

Oculus for Business is no longer available for purchase. Alternatively, US-based companies are encouraged to purchase new Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro headsets and enroll in the Meta Quest for Business beta program. Businesses outside of the US can also purchase those Meta Quest devices now, and enroll in Meta Quest for Business once it becomes available in their market. What will be included with the new offering, Meta Quest for Business?

Meta Quest for Business includes features and capabilities like Meta work accounts and Mobile Device Management (MDM). Meta work accounts provide a new account type to access Meta Quest headsets. Plus, Meta work accounts enable your IT team to easily access the dedicated platform functions they need, like user or account management, identity provider (IdP) and single sign-on (SSO) integrations.

Meta Quest for Business also offers Meta Quest Device Manager that helps your business scale VR deployments by providing direct control of the experience and settings across a fleet of Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro devices. And because Meta Quest Device Manager integrates with third-party MDM hooks, you can benefit from expanded capabilities.

Meta Quest for Business is currently available for US-based businesses as an open beta. Based on feedback from our beta participants, we aim to fully launch this solution later in 2023, and expand availability to other markets beyond the US.

What types of businesses are Meta Quest for Business intended for?

Our long-term vision is that Meta Quest for Business will serve any individual, team, small to midsize business, or enterprise that wants to use VR to improve collaboration, productivity, and remote work. For customers with more rigorous enterprise needs, we recommend onboarding to Meta Quest for Business later in 2023 when we fully launch the solution.

As an Oculus for Business customer, what are my options?

As an Oculus for Business customer, you have several options and we’ll work with you to determine the right path for your business. You can:

[Option 1] Migrate to consumer Meta Quest 2 devices to try the latest productivity features within Horizon Home, and access immersive collaboration and productivity experiences in the Oculus Store, like Horizon Workrooms, Spatial, Gravity Sketch, Arthur, and more. Our customer support agents are available to help. You can open a support ticket. When you convert the software on your Oculus for Business device(s) to the consumer version, you will be unable to revert back to Oculus for Business software in the future.
[Option 1b] Migrate to Meta Quest for Business (beta). US-based companies can enroll in the Meta Quest for Business beta program. Any consumer Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro can be used for Meta Quest for Business. Oculus for Business headsets can be converted to the consumer operating system by submitting a ticket to Customer Support. Conversion of Oculus for Business headsets to the consumer operating system requires a factory reset, and once completed, this action cannot be reversed.
[Option 2] Continue to use Oculus for Business. We will continue to support current Oculus for Business customers. Current customers can continue using their Oculus for Business headsets without any changes to their experience in accordance with the prescribed subscription and warranty periods under the Enterprise Use Agreement, provided that we will no longer offer renewals of Enterprise Support for the Oculus for Business platform.

What is the timeline for Meta Quest for Business beta releases and general availability?

Meta Quest for Business is now available as a beta program for businesses based in the US. We aim to launch the solution for general availability later in 2023, and expand to markets beyond the US.

What will happen to Oculus for Business license renewals at the end of 2021?

We’ll continue to provide enterprise-level support and warranties to Oculus for Business customers in accordance with the prescribed periods under the Enterprise Use Agreement. Facebook will not charge enterprise customers for the continued use of the Oculus for Business Enterprise Software originally installed on or provided with supported enterprise hardware, however the Oculus for Business platform will no longer offer renewable Subscription Period(s) for Enterprise Support on supported headsets. There is no change to the Limited Warranty provided with each headset.

For example, if you purchase an Oculus for Business headset on December 31, 2021, you will receive a Limited Warranty for two years beginning from the earlier of the date you provision the Enterprise Software using the Device Manager Mobile Application (if applicable) or ninety days after the ship date of your headset. Renewal Subscription Period(s) for Enterprise Software will not be required.

Will you be shipping any more updates to Oculus for Business software?

V29 will be the final release for Oculus for Business software. Aside from security and vulnerability patches, we will not be releasing any future updates after V29.

How long will you continue to support Oculus for Business software?

We will continue to support current Oculus for Business customers. Current customers can continue using their Oculus for Business headsets without any changes to their experience in accordance with the Enterprise Use Agreement. At purchase, you will receive a Limited Warranty for two years beginning from the earlier of the date you provision the Enterprise Software using the Device Manager Mobile Application (if applicable) or ninety days after the ship date of your headset. Subsequent Subscription Period(s) for Enterprise Support will not be offered. Renewal Subscription Period(s) for Enterprise Software will not be required.

What will Meta Quest for Business cost?

The Meta Quest for Business subscription is offered free of charge during the beta period. It will become a paid service, separate from the cost of hardware, at the point of general availability. What is Oculus for Business?

Oculus for Business is a bundled enterprise solution available for purchase through our authorized enterprise resellers. Oculus for Business on Oculus Quest and Quest 2 offers a secure and reliable solution to deploy virtual reality (VR) in a business environment. The offering includes:

a one-year license for enterprise software (with the option to renew) that you can use to set up and manage VR devices*
enterprise grade 24-month warranty for fast returns (for more details, see here); and
enterprise grade 24-month customer support (for more details, see here)

*Your enterprise software is subject to the enterprise privacy disclosure at https://business.oculus.com/legal/enterprise-privacy-disclosure/. If you do not renew your enterprise software license following its expiration, you will revert to consumer edition software subject to the consumer privacy policy found here.

What if I want to purchase an Oculus Rift S or Oculus Go?

As we’ve been developing and testing the platform based on key use cases for enterprise customers, it’s become clear that Oculus Quest and Quest 2, with its high-end graphics and fully immersive capabilities, is the best solution for most business VR needs. You can purchase Oculus Rift S and Oculus Go for commercial use. However, the Oculus for Business solution, including the enterprise software, enterprise warranty and enterprise support, is not available for either the Oculus Rift S or Oculus Go. If you purchase enterprise edition Oculus Rift S or Oculus Go, you will get:

the ability to use the Oculus Rift S or Oculus Go for commercial purposes in your Commercial Organization (as defined here);
consumer edition software**;
the consumer warranty (for more details, see here); and
consumer support (for more details, see here).

**Your Oculus for Business Oculus Rift S or Go is subject to the consumer privacy policy found here.

What is the difference between consumer edition devices found in retail stores and online, and enterprise edition devices?

There are no hardware differences between consumer edition and enterprise edition devices. However, consumer edition devices require a Facebook account, while the enterprise edition devices are provisioned and managed without requiring user-level Facebook accounts. Further, Oculus Quest and Quest 2 is enabled for our end-to-end Oculus for Business solution described here. Who is the Oculus for Business solution designed for?

The Oculus for Business solution is designed for:

businesses that are planning to deploy a VR solution at scale to their employees with internally developed VR content or third-party developer VR content not obtained via the Oculus Store, and who plan to manage their own fleet of devices;
businesses that are planning to deploy a VR solution at scale to consumers (including demos and VR experiences) under the business’s direct supervision and management. Devices used in this model are managed directly by the business and are not for end users to take home; and
developers who are testing their application to deploy through Oculus for Business. This is only for testing purposes. Developers should not manage deployments on behalf of enterprise customers.

Who is the Oculus for Business solution NOT intended or permitted for?

The Oculus for Business solution is NOT intended or permitted for:

businesses that manage, rent or lease deployments on behalf of customers without personnel present at all times to administer and supervise the use of the devices (see here);
businesses that want to deploy VR content to their employees with consumer apps delivered via the Oculus store; or
business to consumer use cases where consumers expect to keep or take the devices home.

What happens when I switch from the preloaded consumer software to the enterprise software or discontinue my Oculus for Business subscription?

Your Oculus Quest and Quest 2 device will come preloaded with consumer software. Activation of your enterprise software may require a factory reset which will result in the loss of any stored content on the consumer software. If you have an Oculus Quest and Quest 2 device running Oculus for Business enterprise software and choose not to renew your subscription to the enterprise software, this may also result in a factory reset and the loss of any stored content.

Can I upgrade to the Oculus for Business solution for my existing devices?

No. The Oculus for Business solution is only available as a standalone product SKU purchased through an authorized enterprise channel. Oculus for Business is only available on the Quest platform, but it must be purchased at the outset of your device purchase. Consumer Quest devices cannot be upgraded to the Oculus for Business platform.

Can I buy commercial use rights for my consumer Oculus Quest 2, Quest, Rift S and Go?

Commercial use rights can be found under Oculus Commercial Terms.

Will I be reminded to renew my Oculus for Business Oculus Quest and Quest 2 subscriptions?

You will receive a notification to renew your subscription when it is about to expire. If you choose not to renew your subscription, you will lose access to the enterprise software and may lose any stored content, see here.

Can we disable Guardian permanently?

Yes, your admin has the ability to disable Guardian for any and all devices via the Device Manager. Disabling Guardian is only supported for seated experiences and will default to an average seated height for the user.

Can we engage with a third party developer or independent software vendor (ISV) to develop content?

Yes. You may engage with a third party developer or ISV or develop your own content for the enterprise software.

What is the Enterprise Use Agreement?

The Enterprise Use Agreement is a set of terms that governs your use of enterprise edition Oculus for Business products for commercial or business purposes. The full text of the Enterprise Use Agreement can be found here.

What are the Oculus Commercial Terms?

The Oculus Commercial Terms are separate terms that will govern your use of consumer edition Oculus products for commercial or business purposes. The full text of the Oculus Commercial Terms can be found under www.oculus.com/legal/oculus-commercial-terms. Note that your use of consumer Oculus Products may be subject to the Facebook Terms of Service (located at facebook.com/terms/) and the Supplemental Oculus Terms of Service (located at www.oculus.com/legal/terms-of-service/) or, if you are using an Oculus account, the Oculus Terms of Service (located at https://www.oculus.com/legal/terms-for-oculus-account-users/).

What privacy policy covers my products?

Oculus Quest and Quest 2 running on enterprise software is subject to the enterprise privacy policy found here.

Devices running on consumer software are subject to the consumer privacy policy found here. This applies to enterprise edition Oculus Rift S and Oculus Go, and any Oculus Quest or Quest 2 that is running on consumer software (e.g. that you are using via the Commercial Terms or otherwise following the expiration of your Oculus for Business subscription).

Can we use content purchased on the Oculus Store for commercial use?

The content purchased in the Oculus Store is intended for consumer use. If you would like to use third party content on your Oculus for Business products or your commercial use Oculus consumer products, you will need to obtain permission from the relevant third party to use their content for commercial or business purposes. Note that there is no Oculus Store available on the Oculus for Business enterprise software.

Can I lease my Oculus for Business devices to third parties?

You may purchase devices and use them in your own business or for a demo. However, the Enterprise Use Agreement does not permit leasing products to third parties unless you have your personnel present at all times to administer and supervise the third party’s use of your devices. Such supervised rentals are subjected to the additional terms in the Headset Extended Community License at http://business.oculus.com/legal/headset-extended-community-license/. For a detailed discussion of supervised rental rights and restrictions, see here. Please note that we do not support or permit leasing Oculus consumer products to third parties under a supervised rental model.

Can I operate an experience that includes co-location features?

Co-location is when two devices in the same vicinity track each other within the software. The tracking functionality of the Oculus software does not support co-location, and you may not modify the tracking functionality for custom co-location or otherwise.

Why is the minimum age 13?

Keeping people safe in virtual reality is our top priority. Oculus has provided comprehensive warnings about our products since they were launched, and this now includes Oculus Quest and Quest 2. The warnings advise that our VR products should not be used by children under the age of 13 because online safety experts have landed on 13 as a marker for social online activity generally. We will continue to look at how people use Oculus and how the product develops in making decisions about our product policies.

Is there any way to customize or bypass the Oculus Device Manager Mobile Application, web application, or platform services?

You may not bypass or override the Oculus Device Manager Mobile Application, web application, or platform services. This includes creating a custom application launcher in kiosk mode that gives users access to multiple applications without returning to the Oculus homepage or creating proprietary interfaces, application programming interfaces, or a third-party application store or marketplace. The only exception to this restriction is that up to 10 of your devices may be in developer mode at any time, which may allow you to bypass certain Oculus platform services if used in accordance with the applicable requirements of developer mode.

Is side-loading content permitted?

Mass provisioning is only available for devices that are running the Oculus for Business enterprise software.

Devices running the consumer software will only have the option to side-load content.

Workplace (WP)

Do I need a Workplace account?

If you have an Oculus for Business Oculus Quest or Quest 2 device running enterprise software, then your Oculus for Business admin will need a Workplace account subject to the terms at https://www.facebook.com/legal/FB_Work_EnterpriseAgreement.

If your devices are not running Oculus for Business enterprise software, you do not need a Workplace account.

What is Workplace and why am I being asked to create a Workplace account?

Corporate VR solutions must have a strong security foundation. That’s why we built the Oculus for Business enterprise software solution on the world-class security infrastructure and privacy practices of Workplace by Facebook. This includes strong data center security, 24/7 threat monitoring, layers of encryption, and advanced technologies like machine learning. We’ve also adopted Workplace policies for giving organizations control and ownership of their VR application data. Your Oculus for Business admin will need a Workplace account to administer your Oculus for Business enterprise software solution.

If my business has an existing Workplace account, do we need to create a new one?

It depends. The enterprise software runs on the premium version of Workplace. If you have the free version, we will upgrade you, at no cost, to the premium version. If you already have the premium version, then you will need to have your company’s Workplace admin turn on permissions for your Oculus for Business admin.

Does my business need a Workplace account for each Oculus for Business headset we purchase?

No, you will only need accounts for your admins, but not for each headset. The Oculus for Business admin may be a different person from your Workplace admin.

Warranties/Support

What warranties and support are provided for the Oculus for Business Product?

Oculus for Business products include our enhanced enterprise support offering that provides hardware and software support via a dedicated help center, chat, email, and phone (call back) during the warranty period.

Oculus for Business products also come with an extended 24-month hardware warranty and are eligible for advanced exchange.

What warranties and support are provided for consumer Oculus Quest and Quest 2 products or enterprise edition Oculus Rift S and Oculus Go products?

Oculus Quest and Quest 2 consumer products as well as Oculus for Business Oculus Rift S and Oculus Go products come with our standard consumer warranty and support.

Transfer, Renting and Leasing

Transfer

You may not purchase Oculus products on behalf of other parties and transfer or resell such products. If you are an independent software vendor (ISV) working with a customer who needs devices, please instruct such customers to purchase Oculus products directly from an authorized reseller.

Permitted Renting and Leasing

You may rent or lease only Oculus for Business products to a third party as part of a service or other offering, but you must have personnel present at all times to administer and supervise the use of the headsets. All permitted leasing is subject to the terms of the Headset Extended Community License, found here.

Not-Permissible Renting and Leasing

You may not allow a third party to rent the headsets outright, without the headsets being under your supervision and control. Leaving your headsets with third parties is not permitted.
